Huawei Free Gift Box

Huawei Nova 7SE comes with 5G connectivity but since our country only has 4G so this capability kind of redundant here.

By now, many of you are probably familiar with the trade war created by the US against China. Before you make a decision please aware that the Huawei has lost access to Intel Qualcomm's chips, Microsoft and Google's software. This means no window and GMS, Google Mobile Services. All those are US tech-based.

I guess China is being China. They are quick in having their own backup plan. No GMS? They launched HMS, Huawei Mobile Services, right away. No Google search?  Huawei has Petal Search! No Qualcomm's hardware? Huawei makes phone using its own Kirin processors.  One good thing Huawei still can use Android since it's open-source. The thing is losing access to GMS means the new Huawei phone couldn't run Google apps or third-party apps that use Google APIs (ah! this is the time when I missed my old Huawei Nova 3i).

Applications - What Works and What doesn't work for me

I am writing this post is to share which apps work and which don't and can I continue living my day to day life without any GMS on my phone? For your information, Huawei has its own built-in AppGallery. Most of the applications, I am currently using is in there. So, at one glance this sound promising, right?

Social Media

I can have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok like I used to have. No big issue at all.
My concern is just since now I develop some interest in uploading the video to my not popular YouTube Channel CindyrinaRina, I can't have YouTube Apps on my mobile. I have to access using the desktop version website. So imagine straining my eyes uploading the video and typing those words which my 4 series eyes could barely see. But I need to get used to this. For this limitation, I end up uploading the video using the phone and type out the words and do other settings to my channel in the desktop instead. Problem solve!

Communication

Email, calendar and contacts are not an issue at all since I found this Microsoft outlook apps here.
Gmail apps obviously not in Huawei apps. But this is not an issue at all. I just sign in using the Huawei email application. So most of my Gmail can be access from that app. It just that since its outlook does not like Gmail which is with the label and so on, so my email loads kind of mess up. I need to clean up all those promotion emails on daily basis now. Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, Kakao, Viber work well here too. So no issue at all.

Maps

As for maps, I still can use google maps with my new Huawei phone. But Huawei app also has its own maps. So I decided to have both maps on my phone. Yes! you can still use Waze on this phone though. I tried all three apps and it excellent here.

Cloud Storage and Documents

I personally, don't use cloud storage. As expected Google Drive, Documents, Sheets and Slides do not run well here. It's in here but it just doesn't run. So I remove from my phone to save the space. It's not a big deal since I still have my Huawei tablet which runs all those. Just pray hard my GMS Huawei doesn't die. huhuhuh... Other alternatives, they have an app call Office which has Word, Excel and PowerPoint too. It works well for emergency use. As for Dropbox, I read it run well in HMS but I personally not a big fan of this app. Huawei has its own cloud storage too and it has a 5GB free.

Web Browser

Google Chrome works well here. I can't connect to google account to sync bookmarks and browsing history but it works just fine. If you don't like Google Chrome, you can have an alternative like Petal and Bing,

Shopping and Food

Other apps like FoodPanda and GrabFood works in this phone. So no issue and I believe Huawei won't let their fan go hungry! hehehehe Online shopaholic like me, Shopee and Lazada apps is a must but I can't really use PGMall in HMS. Not a big deal! Shopback works well here but OctaPlus I deleted that app last month since I feel bitter when they decided to reject my cashback tracks out of sudden after the approval. isk isk isk. Whatever!

Keyboard

I used to has Google's Gboard but in this new phone it automatically uses the Microsoft Swiftkey. no big issue and it works really well too.

Photo and Video

I usually use Canva, PhotoGrid and Meitu and all work well here. As for the video I usually use InShot for video editing and this works excellent in HMS too. Other than that I did read that Netflix doesn't run in here but since I don't have a Netflix account, I can't verify that for you. I don't use Spotify or Google Play Music so I don't know whether this is work here. They do have Huawei Video in here but I never really try this app since I am afraid they ask me to pay. Talk about a Penny Pincher attitude. hahahaha...No..I am still exploring. What can and what cannot using this HSM phone.

Other apps limitation

I may have a problem to register a guest to my new home since my new neighbourhood app doesn't run in HMS. Anyway, since I don't accept any guest to my new home so this is not a big issue yet! I just need to drive my car in and out since it already has the RFID sticker to access. I did tried the Flexi Selangor parking app to pay for my parking and it has GPS detection problem since the app itself prompt up it doesn't work well without google play service. I still manage to point out the location manually and paid. But worried and nervous while did my shopping just in case I point out the location wrongly. Pray hard no ticket issue out if the officer who did the round out couldn't detect my online payment. hahaha
JomRun app doesn't work well in HMS. It doesn't track my activities well. Urgh!!!! really hate this part. So basically, if the app doesn't run in HMS it will just pop up says " This app require google play store service to run".

So my conclusion, I would say, it's crucial for the app developer to take HMS into account when they create a mobile app. If you are kind of love to explore and no problem living in an experimental environment then you can live with HMS. It's doable but there are some limitations too, no doubt. With my personality, I shouldn't be too bold in purchasing this Huawei phone for the sake of trying something new. isk isk isk...I should have gone for Samsung even though it is more pricey than Huawei. Although the limitation of HMS doesn't give too much of the impact on my day to day life. I personally think Huawei need to try harder to improve and ensure all apps works well which means to seek the negotiation with Google to open up GMS for the future of Huawei. Minus of the HMS thingy, overall the Huawei Nova 7SE is an excellent phone from the battery, screen, capacity, the camera has all I wanted for my smartphone. I wish the trade war end soon with the new President.

I have made my choice for now, unless a miracle happens,  I have to live with HMS for at least another 4 years and I think by that time I am more familiar to live in the world without GMS.

By the way, for those living in Malaysia,  MySejahtera apps work well in HMS. So, worry not!

My First Virtual Run

Friday, January 29, 2021 0 Comments

Hello World!

As I was about to write this post, just realize my one and only beloved smartphone (LiRong) is giving up his life.  LiRong has been with me for many years now. I think it's about time for me to let him go peacefully soon. I am trying my best to scout for LiRong replacement. Heol! Why am I all excited to find a new one? Bad Rina! No sense of loyalty at all. huhuhuhuh

Anyway, back to my title, my first virtual run.... the story begin when I was sitting on my treadmill after my usual morning walk. I manage to complete on 2km that day. My knee is giving up even at 1km. Adding another 1km was a heavy task for me. Even until yesterday, I feel suffering to the max just to complete 1km. By the way, I did wear a knee guard to protect my bad knee. The pain will suffer throughout the week every time after the morning walk. I have been turning my feeling off. Ignoring the pain for my whole well being sake. I shut myself off and decided not to pamper myself with such at the self pitiless feeling.

I decided to get myself a motivation. I need a carrot to push myself harder. 2km? Huh! I can do more. I was telling myself. Browsed the google play searching for the virtual run. I found this app called 'JomRun'. I don't hesitate to install it.  I was excitedly, to sign up for every cute poster run. So within 10 minutes of installing, I end up signed up for freaking three virtual run. It was at almost 12 midnight that day. Damn! I am so greedy! I even consider myself posses by one greedy ghost that night.

The next day, woke up regretting my last night irresponsible activities blew up almost RM100 for three virtual runs sign up fees. What have I done? The whole day keeps repeating the same word to myself. Why? Why? Why? Why Rina? Why did you do that?

Then the next day, I woke up with the feeling...Gosh! looking back at the e-ticket. I was like....this is so cute! I made a good choice! Urgh!!! me cannot avoid any cute things at all. I signed up for 2 Valentines day run and one Unicorn run. I bet T-Shirt would be cute like its name. hahaha...What am I going to do with my cute little thing fetish?

Like I said! I need a carrot. Carrot to motivate me to move forward and to walk more instead of just freaking 2km. I have the carrot now. So, can I perform? This is my biggest challenge. So every morning I try to do 5km. Never succeeded. I seriously feel pain to my ass just to complete 1km. I distracted myself with movies and kdrama just to do more than 1km.

This morning, woke up with determination to just press start on the apps to complete the 5km. I barely do more than 4km during my usual morning training. But....again...don't know which ghost posses me this morning. I end up press 'START' on the Virtual 5km Valentine's Day Run. Damn! Die! Die! must complete this right? I walk and walk and walk...as fast as I can. I was sweating a bucket. The sweat even drips into my eyes and it stinks my eyes badly. Regret for not to keep any tissue or towel closer to me. Non-stop walking....by the time it hits 2km, I was like almost giving up. But the money spent which is RM29.90 to purchase the ticket keeps floating around my head. I push myself another 1km. Heol! I hit 4km in a blink. Then the devil inside me keeps whispering...you are in pain. Do you want to destroy your own knee?

But then as the devil was whispering the cute Valentine's day T-Shirt, my first ever medal in entire life and the certificate which will make me proud ever....is floating around my head. I need to keep moving. A bit more... a bit more....I can do this!

Tadahhhhhh...I did it! Happy! Happy! I was satisfied with myself. Most importantly, I don't give up this morning even though I feel this is really hard and impossible, especially with my old age stamina.

Finally, proud to announce, I completed first-ever run for my entire life. Yeah! I never join any run or marathon even during school days. I was that girl who always tries her best to avoid PE class in any chance possible. I even avoided Sports day for many years in a row. No..no...I don't regret doing that at all. I did it, because I don't like to be among the crowd.

Moral of this long-winded story, I can do more than I thought. I just need some motivation to push my limit.

Aik Cheong Black Drip Series Coffee Review

Wednesday, January 27, 2021 0 Comments
Best Black Coffee

Aik Cheong coffee is not a foreign brand in Malaysia. They have been established ever since the year 1955. They started a humble wooden shop along Temple Street in the Old Historical Malacca Town. Mostly dealing with trade importing coffee beans from around Asia like Indonesia, the Philippines and South America. The activities include grounding and packing the coffee manually for the local market.

I remember grew up to love the sip of 'Kopi O' from this particular brand. That was those days before I got to know the other expensive brand. I would say, trying to follow the trends to satisfy my throat to those modern days brand.

Now that, ageing is catching up to me. I find myself craving the old day's taste. Aik Cheong coffee no doubt has a great fragrance coffee. It wakes you up in the instant to that aromatic smells.

Aik Cheong brand has grown throughout generation and from the 'Kampung Coffee to the most adaptive modern style coffee catching up to the younger generation.

Recently, I was introduced to the new range from Aik Cheong called, Aik Cheong Balck Drip Series.
Aik Cheong Black Drip Series comes in four variants with each pack in a vibrant colour box. Each box has 5 sachets of drip coffee.

  • Red - Ethiopia Yirgacheffe (Spicy + Fragrant)
  • Yellow - Colombia Medelin (Bright + Rich)
  • Blue - Guatemala Huehuetenango (Mild + Pleasant)
  • Green - Nicaragua Jinotega (Sweet + Deep)

Drip Coffee

Quick Drip Coffee

I remember my first experience having drip coffee during my visit to Hanoi, Vietnam. It was a mix feeling drip coffee experience. Thick coffee taste and sweet with condensed milk at the bottom. I am not a big fan of sugary sweet taste for coffee. The waiting time for the coffee to completely drip really put me off.

I tried Aik Cheong Black Drip Series Coffee and it took me less than 1 minute to enjoy a fresh aromatic black coffee. It's so simple and quick. Most of all it delicious too.

Aik Cheong Coffee

Which Aik Cheong Black Drip Series Coffee is my preference?

I tasted all four variants from Aik Cheong Black Drip Series Coffee. Each variant has its own different unique taste and aromatic. I personally prefer the Green Box which is Nicaragua Jinotega. It hits the spot immediately with one sip. The smells of fresh coffee aromatic from this variant is pleasant wakes me up.🙋 Totally mood lifting. It rather has mild sourish taste than bitter like other usual coffee, I ever tasted.😃

If you asked me for the second choice, I would go for the Red box Ethiopia Yirgacheffe. As described on the box it has spicy and fragrant. Don't expect the chilli spicy but it did has a hint of mild refreshing spiciness after taste and yet delicious coffee for a morning start.😋

While for the yellow box Colombia Medelin , could be passed on anytime. I expected it as rich and bright taste as described on the box. But to my disappointment, it has a bitter and not so rich.😂

My least choice will be the Blue box - Guatemala Huehuetenango. Although it describes as mild and pleasant on the box. I just don't like the after taste bitterness which lasting on my mouth.😌

Mentioned above is just my honest opinion after personally tasted the Aik Cheong Black Drip Series. You may have a different view on each variant. Interested to get your hands on the Aik Cheong Black Drip Series?

Gaston Luga Biten 15" Black and Brown Backpack Review

Sunday, January 24, 2021 0 Comments

Secure Backpack

.
Recently got my hands on Gaston Luga Biten 15" backpack.. I always attracted to the squarish shape backpack. Gaston Luga Biten 15" comes in four different colours.

  • Black
  • Black - Brown
  • Olive Brown
  • Grey - Brown

At first, I want to choose the all-black colour but then end up selecting the Black - Brown which also looks good. The Gaston Luga Biten 15"regular price tag is RM449. You can apply my discount code: CINDYRINA to enjoy a 15 percent off. On top of that, you can get a free make up pouch with your purchase. Gaston Luga offers free delivery worldwide too.

By the way my discount code: CINDYRINA only valid until the end of Feb March 2021. So, grab your chance now for a beautiful functional backpack for next business trip or leisure travel.

About Gaston Luga

Gaston Luga is a well-known brand from Stockholm, Sweden. A Swedish backpack retailer located in the heart of Stockholm. Gaston Luga backpack is getting more and more popular in Malaysia with its sleek and stylish design on top of the minimalist and elegant exterior. The range of backpack collections is perfect for any occasion from day-to-day use to the business or leisure travel.

Why I chose Gaston Luga Biten 15"?

If I were to mention the specification as what I read on their website which influenced my choice,

  • Dimensions (CM) : 38 x 26.5 x 17.5
  • Weight without any items inside: 0.8kg
  • Capacity: 17.5L
  • Inner laptop compartment
  • Magnetic strap closure
  • Outer zipper pocket
  • Inner pockets
  • Adjustable shoulder straps
  • Material: Polyester, PU Leather

Zipper

I am a sucker when it comes to a zipper bag instead of a drawstring. Gaston Luga bag comes with a smooth zipper and also with a safety measure design.

Compartment

It has a front pocket compartment with a great safety measure - a buckle strap on top of a zipper in the inside. I feel secure. with this double safety measure.

It has two compartments on both sides to put a water bottle and umbrella on the other side too.

Stable bottom

The design comes with 4 metallic feet on the bottom. I like it as this feature provides stability when you place on the uneven and also can avoid dirty or wet surfaces.

Secure pocket at bag

I love that it has these features. The designer of this bag is super thoughtful while designing this bag. It has a hidden pocket at the bag for easy passport storage. I always have a problem and feel it a hassle for me to take out and store my passport during my travel. This secure pocket kind of a fantastic feature.

Another zippered compartment

The location is at the reverse side of the bag and this compartment is really safe to store my wallet and laptop or even tablet and other important items during my travel.

Convenient carry and handle

The harness at the reverse side of the bag kind of easy to attach with luggage when travelling out on the plane. For a solo traveller like me will see this as convenient rather than carry it on my back, I can easily add this on my luggage and drag it around. It much lighter load.

Adjustable bag strap

I love the slim but yet sturdy harness for a backpack carrier. The padding on the strap also protects my back and shoulder for a heavier load but I wish the padding is thicker than it is.

Hand carrier

It has a secure magnetic strap on the hand handle. It kind of sturdy for a heavier load too. I would keep it buckle up for better-looking backpack.

Overall, Gaston Luga Biten is my choice of a backpack for my next travel adventure or business trip. I imagine myself carrying this for a short 3 days / 2 Nights trip since it has a spacious and secure compartment as what I described above. On top of that, the water-resistant soft polyester makes this a good companion for my next travel too. Apart from travel, I find that Gaston Luga Biten is suitable for everyday work too.

Where to buy Gaston Luga bag?

If you are interested to purchase Gaston Luga bag, you can get it from Gaston Luga's official website HERE. They are having a promotion now, where you will receive a beautiful makeup pouch with every purchase. Use my code: CINDYRINA to enjoy a 15 percent off. Offer valid until the end of Feb March 2021.

Terminus Quantum-ion Mask Review

Saturday, January 16, 2021 0 Comments

Face Mask Review

Do you know certain states in Malaysia is currently observing MCO or Movement Control Orders again for 2 weeks? It was announced on the 11th Jan 2021 evening and the official MCO effective 13th Jan  - 26th Jan 2021. Many of us are speculating the MCO will be extended longer especially with the spike of cases and the upcoming Chinese New Year Celebration.

I would say, Malaysia is not the only country facing such a situation. The pandemic has been spreading globally. As protection all of us are required to follow certain SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and wearing a face mask is essential whenever we step outside or in public. Many of the capitalist business owners have taken the opportunity to produce or sells face mask to reap out from the global face mask demand.

What kind of face mask do you wear? Which one is good for you? No one can tell you which one is good as many producer or seller will claim theirs are the no/ one and the best. No doubt!

I personally don't favour any specific mask or brand. I usually bought mine from the pharmacy for the disposable mask. I will use the disposable mask whenever to go out for shopping or any event requires me to be in the crowd for a long time. I will wear the washable cloth mask with a disposable filter insert whenever step out from the house to collect the parcel or any online shopping delivery or throw rubbish. I used to buy a cloth face mask during my travel abroad in previous years. So I have many at home even before Covid-19 started.

I was thinking to cancel one of my cards and then notice there are some points up for redemption. Since the remaining balance is not so great amount so I end up redeemed it with Terminus Quantum-ion Mask. Terminus brand is nothing new to me since I owned one backpack from this particular brand. I  checked online the Terminus Quantum-ion mask price at RM39. For redemption, it worth around 30,000 plus. isk isk isk...not sure whether this is worth of this much of points. To be honest, this is the only item affordable for redemption points since I don't have that much. It has 2 colours which is black and grey. I chose black.

Terminus Quantum-ion mask claimed :

  • World's first "Quantum Resonance Hybrid Nano Formulation
  • Antiviral and Antibacterial Coating Technology patent application pending approval
  • Kills 99.99 percent of  Covid-19 in One-Minute
  • Three-ply protection system
  • 50 times washable without losing it's 3 ply protection system

The 3 Ply  Protection System including :

  1. Virus and bacteria elimination layer
  2. Face cooling + virus and bacteria elimination layer
  3. Particle protection layer

Terminus Quantum-ion Antimicrobial Coating Technology has active ingredients :

  • Nano copper ionic
  • Titanium dioxide
  • Resonance energy
  • Tourmaline crystal
  • Nanosilver ionic

Terminus Quantum-ion mask has an antibacterial test standard by United States Pharmacopeia.

Up to here, my review post sounded like a Science class lecture. 99.99 percent on what I have typed is something foreign to my non-science brain. If I were to describe what I look like while reading the description in the package. The tweety bird is flying around my head and my nose is bleeding. hahahaha.... this shows much I hate science class during my school days.

Here comes the real review.......

What is my personal say on Terminus Quantum-ion mask?

The smells of the hospital like medication hits my nose immediately while unwrapping the mask from its packaging. I was thinking hard on whether will be able to wear this mask after what I just smelled. Can I even wear this mask for a long time when step outside?

To be honest the smells from all the chemical (no matter if this is good and can kill bacteria or virusses) is killing me to wear it for a long time.

Best face mask

One good thing about this mask is the design is breathable and can feel the cooling effect on my face. Unlike other face masks which will make us feel sweating or some even almost suffocate me. For those who are wearing glasses need not worry about the steamed up glasses. The design has a good nose bridge holder sow up. The mask fixes really well and with the adjustable elastic ear-ring. The material of the mask is kind of comfy for me despite the 'eeewwwww' science and technology smells.

Best face mask

Quality face mask

How to wash Terminus Quantum-ion mask?

  • Hand wash in cold water with soap
  • Gently swirl, knead and rinse with clean water
  • Briefly dry with a towel and line dry or lay flat
  • Wash once a week (It says up to 50 wash, which means this mask can last up to 12.5 months if wash it once a week.)

Please avoid the followings :

  • Do not wash in hot water, twist or wring
  • Do not use bleach, softener or detergent with a fluorescent agent.
  • Do not iron.

Will I wear this outside?

Of course with all the good technology listed and 'beh tahan' smells described, I will wear this outside for the sake of self-protection from the crazy bad viruses which is going crazy attack people. Most of us couldn't stand swallowing a medicine but you couldn't stay well without one. For me, the Terminus Quantum-ion mask is the same as wearing medication. on my face. I felt like wearing the whole science lab on my face. I feel like well-protected. I just need to get used of that smells. isk isk isk...
The good thing always comes with a catch, huh?

If you interested to get Terminus Quantum-ion mask please visit Terminus official website.

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. I redeemed it using my card rewards point.

Update: I wear the mask out and here is my update in my Instagram.

Best Chinese New Year Goodies Delivery In Singapore

Monday, January 11, 2021 0 Comments

Pineapple Tarts

We are celebrating the year of OX in this Chinese New Year 2021.  It is a customs culture to bring along a gift when visiting relatives and friends during Chinese New Year. While other cultures may not so particular on the gift but with the Chinese, there a throng of taboo to avoid.

Delicious Pineapple Tarts

1. Pineapple Tarts (Good Fortune)

Pineapple is called 'ong lai' in Hokkien. If literally translates it means ' prosperity or good fortunes has come. You will never miss pineapples tarts during Chinese New Year. Most people will be serving, eating and gifting pineapple tarts to bring prosperity and luck. As time passed, pineapple tarts has evolved into many shapes and design. I have heated the open-top flower shapes, crinkle rollover, plain smooth rollover, ball shape, oval one and even the pineapple shapes itself. More creative and presentable. Even the classic butter pastry has now had different flavour added such as strawberries, green tea, raspberry and many more. I personally love pineapple tart and love the buttery pastry with less sweet pineapple jam fillings.

Kuih Bangkit Sedap

2. Kuih Bangkit (Prosperity)

'Kuih Bangkit' or coconut cookies is also another famous cookies during Chinese New Year. The common shape of 'Kuih Bangkit' that I usually eat is in a flower shape. Do you know that originally 'Kuih Bangkit' was made in the shape of the currency of during ancient China? It was a common ancestral offering or for a newly departed to spend in the afterlife. As time has passed,' Kuih Bangkit' shape has change into animals and floral shapes for example goldfish means prosperity, Chrysanthemum for fortune. What is the good 'Kuih Bangkit' taste? Fragrance and flavorful coconut taste, less sweet and melt in the mouth texture. Ahhhh! one or a dozen of this won't be enough for me.

3. Peanut Cookies (Longevity)

Peanut cookies are one of the favourite choices by the Children during Chinese New Year. The fragrance of nutty taste and crunchy texture is totally appetising. You will hook by it after just one bite. Peanuts represent longevity in Chinese cultures.

Love Letters

4. Kuih Kapit or Love Letters (Heartfelt)

It comes in a triangle or scroll-like shapes. Love letters are the way of communication in old-time, where no technology or facilities to convey messages between lovers. Not only the messages are heartfelt but also it is edible to eat too. Whatever it means to love or heartfelt, egg rolls or love letter is perfect delicious snacks during Chinese New Year.

CNY Cookies

5. Prawn rolls (Good Fortune and Happiness)

I remember witnessing a fight for prawns during one of my Chinese New Year shopping. It makes me laugh to see that ridiculous fight over a prawn. Then I realized it s nothing to laugh about. Its common prawns or shrimps dishes will be served on the dinner table during the auspicious Chinese New Year dinner. Shrimp and prawns represent good fortune and happiness. While spring rolls represent wealth.

6. 'Ngaku Chips' or Arrowhead Chips (Good life)

Ever wonder why arrowhead vegetables are famous during Chinese New Year? We will only see it selling during Chinese New Year. I personally love arrowhead chips. I love the thin slices, crunchy and lightly salt 'ngaku chips'. I can finish one jar at one sitting all by myself. **shy! shy!** The arrowhead vegetables represent good life and it was usually given to close relatives as a sincere wish.

This coming Chinese New Year is something different since many of us are observing a new norm ever since the pandemic started last year. We can't freely join a gathering without any SOP.
